• Cartagena de indias, The "heroic City". Where admiral Vernon in 1741 prematurely had a victory coin minted only to be defeated by a one eyed, one armed, one legged Blas de Lezo. A natural harbour which arguably became the most important port in the entire Caribbean. The capital city of Colombia until the climate of Bogota attracted the Spanish governing class away.

• Cartagena has developed into a diverse city with Industrial, Commercial , Tourist and cultural, and Maritime sectors. From the tourist viewpoint we have a beautiful old city full of special romantic haunts, exquisite restaurants in breathtaking settings. An old city which largely remains intact, where for much of the day the pedestrian is king. Those on a budget could be having the time of their lives. Living costs are low with budget restaurants abounding (you can easily find a healthy, well prepared lunch for less than $3.00US.)

• If emeralds are your thing you will need to look no further. Take the advice of fellow cruisers in seeking the best deals and service.
• Night life is vibrant catering to many tastes! From the classy Theatre Heredia to the Salsa bars and discos. Two modern Cine Complexes are available to those who wish to keep pace with Holliwoods' latest (almost all subtitled in Spanish).

• Meeting people has never been this easy. Club Nautico has regular 'Pot luck's' which occasionally convert into midnight rumba's where everybody has a chance to let rip. THe talent emanating from the cruising community itself is a constant and very welcome.
